We found ourselves back at Southport this weekend, on the same road as The Wagging Tail which we reviewed only a few weeks ago. This time we went for a pub located on the corner of Botanic Rd, it has roadside parking and a small car park to the rear making for easy access.
Dogs are allowed in the beer garden and a section of the indoor pub, which was packed with locals and (majority) friendly staff. Outside features plenty of picnic bench style seating, and a water keg for the four legged clientele. An attractive plaque outside states dog friendly status, and treats available inside.
Once inside we were informed dogs were permitted in one section of the pub, which was full so we were relegated to the drinking/sports viewing section but allowed to order food. Dogs were tolerated well and the odd bowl was scattered about the place. If the weather were not so dark and gloomy we would have definitely opted for outside seating.
Food was basic pub grub, good value if you use the deals available, though nothing special. Dessert was the best part, with millionaire brownie and ice cream (YES), and apple crumble available, as well as coffee and mini cake.
Pizza was tasty and wasn't straight out the freezer rubbish you can get at some pubs, which was a relief!
Woof rating 6/10, would visit for a pint in good weather, perhaps for a snack but pass on sit down dinner, this is more of an enjoyable visit for a drink and a chat after a walk.
